Acting on the urgent need to strengthen advocacy against GMOs in Nigeria, the Centre for Food Safety and Agricultural Research (CEFSAR) organized a one-day media training for journalists and media professionals across the country.
The training, themed “Challenges and Opportunities to Nigeria’s Food Sovereignty”, was held at the Media Room, House of Representatives, National Assembly.
Unlike the usual approach where press statements are handed down, CEFSAR empowered media houses to develop their own narratives. This gave journalists the independence to report from their perspectives, ensuring authenticity and credibility.
The result? Several stories from the training made it to the front pages of major newspapers, television, and radio platforms, amplifying the call for food sovereignty and exposing the dangers of GMOs to millions of Nigerians.
Through this initiative, CEFSAR successfully placed food sovereignty at the center of mainstream conversations, helping the media to communicate more earnestly with the Nigerian public and policymakers.
