-GMO's and Chemical Contaminants in-
food
Products
Professor Qrissturberg Amua
Several raised concerns about the dangers of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their effect on health, agriculture, and the society. We argue that while GMOs were initially promoted to increase crop yields and make plants more resistant to herbicides, they’ve led to the overuse of agro-chemicals like glyphosate (Roundup). This overuse, driven by the same companies that produce both GMOs and agro-chemicals, creates a conflict of interest and has serious environmental and health consequences.
GMO Foods:
Engaging All
and Sundry
dr segun adebayo
Referencing several documents, Dr Segun Adebayo speaks on Atrazine which is found in pesticides used for GM Crops and also called chemical castrator, effective in making men effeminate and sterile and many more. Dr Segun highlights the need to balance knowledge so people can be informed enough to choose if they want Genetically Modified Foods or not.
GMO's as Colonisation Agents on
Agriculture-led Growth
and Food Security in Africa
Seyi Ifelaja
GMOs are being used as a tool of modern colonization, exerting control over agriculture and food security. Colonialism involves the domination of a people by foreign entities, and we see this new form of control through patented GMO seeds. These seeds create dependency, as farmers must continually buy them, losing control over their food production. This control over seeds and food is a new form of colonialism that threatens our sovereignty, and we must take action to protect our food systems.
The Solution to Nigeria's Food
Security is
Farmer's Security
Honourable Bridget Obi
Hon Bridget emphasised the critical role of agriculture in Nigeria’s future. She highlighted the challenges facing Nigerian farmers, including insecurity, flooding, and lack of government support. She also stressed the importance of developing a sustainable agricultural plan and engaging younger generations in farming. She also called for practical solutions like providing farmers with equipment, supporting local fabrication, and encouraging agricultural education in schools. She concluded by underscoring the importance of natural, healthy food and the need to revive farming as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s prosperity.

the gmo foods
Dr. Amaka Adekoya
In addition to advocating for better labeling and research, it is essential to encourage healthier eating habits. Consumers should prioritize natural, unprocessed foods that are less likely to contain GMO ingredients. Ultra-processed foods, which often rely on GMO-based constituents for their attractive appearance and extended shelf life, may not be the healthiest option. By taking the time to read food labels and preparing meals at home, we can reduce our exposure to potentially harmful substances and make healthier choices for ourselves and our families.
The Media's Role in Advocating for
Organic Farming and
gmo foods
Sylvester Ebhodaghe
As organic farming faces challenges, particularly due to orchestrated insecurity in Nigeria’s farmlands, many farmers have turned to GMO crops to boost yields. However, Nigeria’s fertile land makes this shift both unnecessary and harmful. The media must expose the hidden agendas behind the promotion of GMO products and resist the financial incentives offered to journalists and media houses to push these narratives. In countries with stricter regulations, GMO products are clearly labeled, giving consumers the power to choose. The media in Nigeria must push for similar transparency, ensuring that consumers are informed about what they are buying.
The Urgent Need to Reclaim
Nigeria's
Agricultural Heritage
oluyinka odukoya
Nigeria is a country blessed with abundant natural resources, fertile lands, and a climate that supports year-round farming. However, despite these advantages, the nation finds itself grappling with food insecurity and reliance on imported foods. This paradox is not just a consequence of external factors but a result of choices made by Nigerians over the years.

GMO Seeds of
Death
Dr Phillip Njemanze
Concerns are been raised about the effect of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) on health, agriculture, and the broader socio-economic landscape, particularly in Nigeria. The discussion highlighted not only the potential health risks associated with GMOs but also the broader implications of global influences on local policies and practices.
Organic Farming
A sustainable
solution
adesoji saka
Organic farming offers a sustainable and health-conscious alternative to conventional farming practices. By using natural methods to raise livestock and grow crops, farmers can produce healthy, nutritious food while preserving the environment. The success of organic farming lies in understanding the power of natural ingredients and their synergistic effects when combined. This holistic approach not only ensures the long-term sustainability of agricultural practices but also protects the health of consumers, making it a vital part of the future of farming.
