PROF. QRISSTUBERG AMUA
Executive Director, CEFSAR
CEFSAR was inspired by the need to investigate into Africa’s depleting food-heritage, interrogate the imperatives, and develop solutions to protect our food systems from becoming a story of the past, but preserved for future generations.
At CEFSAR, we believe Africa’s food must not become a story of the past. This is why we investigate the root causes of this decline, interrogate the imperatives driving these changes, and champion solutions that ensure our food systems are protected, restored, and preserved—not as fading memories, but as thriving legacies for future generations.

MYTHS
Sovereignty Over Food Dependency
Nigeria’s farming heritage is built on indigenous seeds and traditional systems that have stood the test of time. But today, GMO promoters call dependency “innovation.”
This clip uncovers the truth about GMO seeds, the dangers they pose to food security, and why sustainable farming is the key to our agricultural future.

Public Hearing on GMOs: Proceedings from the November 2024 Hearing
In November 2024, the House of Representatives opened its doors to Nigerians for an investigative public hearing on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). For years, GMO promoters have pushed their agenda in our food system, but this hearing exposed the truth: Nigerians do not want GMOs forced into our farms, markets, and kitchens.

Media Training on the Challenges and Opportunities to Nigeria's Food Sovereignty
The training, was held at the Media Room, House of Representatives, National Assembly. Unlike the usual approach where press statements are handed down, CEFSAR empowered media houses to develop their own narratives. This gave journalists the independence to report from their perspectives.

Policy Making at the Presidential Villa: CEFSAR Strengthens Its Strategic Reach
We joined top stakeholders in Nigeria’s agricultural sector for a high-level engagement on food security. This engagement not only expanded our network but also positioned us to better influence national conversations around food sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, and the urgent need to reject GMOs in Nigeria.

Highlight Of The World Press Conference
A recent World Press Conference that took place in Abuja, brought together diverse group of stakeholders including scientists, environmental activists, policymakers, and reps from the agric, health and other sectors with the presence of about 15 media houses to discuss and openly scrutinise & disclose the many concerns of GMOs both globally and locally

GMOs Health Risks and Environmental Hazards
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are seeds altered in laboratories to include toxins aimed at eliminating pests and chemicals designed to withstand herbicides used to control weeds. They are also sometimes taunted to be moderately drought resistant and higher yielding per hecterage cultivated, amongst other promotional promises.

Experts Highlight Impact Of Genetically Modified Foods
CEFSAR hosted a thought-provoking symposium on genetically modified organisms (GMOs) which took place in Lagos Tagged, ‘GMO FOODS: Unveiling the Landscapes and Debates beyond the Laboratory’, in agriculture, emphasising the urgent need for organic farming practices to ensure food security, environmental sustainability, and health.
